IMAA 8

Not a lot of time left going right in, let's go.

Episode 8: Field Trip

Hope you prepared for that rant.

The episode opens on Stark Tower as Obadiah Stane looks out his window, shown later to be right through Iron Man's new stealth suit. Iron Man sneaks past all the security with his glitchy stealth suit all the way through to his father's old vault. He finds that the vault is entirely emptied, but worse than that, Iron Man suit completely shuts down. Cue the intro.

Tony reveals that this is going to be a heist episode, I mean, Tony reveals that the suits batteries are entirely empty and that they will have to find a way to sneak out of the building oh, get power cells, and sneak back into the building. This will not be a long review. I also hate to say this, but I don't think there will actually be a rant this time because the reasoning behind him not being able to leave without his suit is completely rational, if shortsighted. He should have tested the camouflage battery usage better and timed it out more.

Tony tries to leave but his near immediately caught. He is brought to Stane who was in the middle of a meeting with his daughter. Tony weaves a sob story and Stane's daughter, who seems to have been at least good friends with Tony, backs him up on his lie. Stane's daughter, Whitney, tells Tony that she knows the lie was bullcrap, but leaves it be after he tells her not to worry about it.

The team meets up with the goal of figuring out how to get it back and Tony says that the reason can't just get another suit is that Whiplash trashed the only other working suit. I would call bull crap but I don't have the time. Rhodey brings up the fact that obviously Stane's not going to buy the sob story, so they make and execute a plan to cause them to have a field trip to Stark International, where they can then go sneak around and get the suit back. Would you believe it only consisted of minor felonies?

Gene recognizes the fact that the team had something going on, and confronts Tony before Tony gets kicked out of Stark Tower. Tony guess the power cores to Gene to give to Rhodey. Stane realizes something is up when told Tony was kicked out. Pepper causes a diversion by getting covered in foam from a hazardous materials station. Rhodey runs off towards the vault.

Tony agrees to do Happy Hogan's homework for a month in exchange for Happy finding a way for Tony to sneak in. Happy had been banned from Stark Tower before, not explained why. Tony gets in. Stane is told Tony's missing, so he places the building on lockdown. Tony meets with Rhodey, both go to the vault. The alarm goes off and the building is put on lockdown. Security drones chase Tony and Rhodey into the vault. Tony closes the vault. The drones fire lasers and start cutting through the door. Stane nearly finds Tony on the cameras, but Whitney cuts the power to the whole tower by pulling one comically large lever by the door. No, I have to resist the urge to make a rant about how stupid that power system is. Just know that if any electrician were to have set that in front of me I would have fired them immediately and asked if they had even went to school.

The drones cut through the door and Tony is revealed to be in the armor. Tony flies Rhodey up the elevator shaft, not a smart plan, and he destroys the drones. Rhodey is dropped off into the elevator and Tony goes back to the bus. Tony gets away due to more stupid planning on the electrical side of things, specifically the cameras hard drives breaking when the power was cut, and Stane has to let him go. Tony agrees to do Happy's homework for two months and Whitney waves at Tony. It's revealed that Tony set the suit to camouflage on top of the bus and the episode ends.

This episode was mostly unimportant, other than introducing Whitney as Stane's daughter and Tony's old friend. I've never really been the biggest fan of heist episodes, but I will admit that the plan was surprisingly decent and went about as well as could be expected. Up next will be the first of the two episodes that I didn't actually get to watch before I'm going to have to review them, ancient history 101. I'll just go ahead and assume that this is going to wind up with something about the rings and the Mandarin. Until then, have a nice day.
