IMAA 9

I'm super tired, but this needs to be done before class today for me to have a chance to turn it in, so tonight's the night I finish. Unless this counts as morning. Either way, let's go.

Episode 9: Ancient History 101

The episode opens with Tony's father entering the room where he found the green ring. This is clearly a flashback oh, as we also see the earth mover later. Tony's father writes stuff about it in his journal, and it transitions to Tony in the present talking to Gene about his father's journal. Gene accepts. Cue the intro.

Tony, Rhodey, Pepper, and Gene all study together. Pepper voices her dislike of Gene, yet again, in earshot as well. Tony explains the journals are filled with half thoughts and forgotten plans even he couldn't understand. Tony also explains that his father found the ring in Jersey as he was trying to build a new facility in said state. Rhodey suggests that they go there for more answers.

Back at the lab, Rhodey questions Gene's trustworthiness, but Tony ignores it. Tony also shows off his new backpack that turns into his suit, to the surprise of the other two. It is a cool transformation. Tony makes the very ironic statement of, "Gene's a nice guy."

Gene, as the Mandarin, yells at his ninjas, ordering them to study the journals. He then walks off and takes off the rings, in case you forgot Gene was the Mandarin.

Tony, Rhodey, Pepper, and Gene all arrive at the ruins, which was unguarded, and start their investigation. A door opens up randomly. Probably unrelated, but Gene's rings glow. Yes, he keeps his rings on a necklace when not the Mandarin. The glow was still visible through his shirt. They find a chamber with a sword and a book. The Chinese word for "wisdom" is on the floor between them. Gene picks up the book and, like any good horror movie victim, reads the first word on a page by itself out loud. Brilliant plan, truly a great long term life decision. This causes the floor to fall out from under them all. Tony and Pepper fall into one room, Rhodey and Gene fall into another.

Tony fell first, and so he lands, catching Pepper before she hits the ground, knocking him down again. The sword falls as well. The two look around and Pepper wants to leave.

Rhodey and Gene immediately starts arguing, soon realizing they are in a different part of the temple. Gene accidentally activates something, but also finds a historical stone carving.

Pepper and Tony are attacked by a statue with a giant sword.

The history of the rings is revealed, and I jumped to way too many assumptions at first. First, my mistake with thinking it was Gengas Khan who originally had the rings, it was not. It was just a guy named Khan who wanted hairs to the rings, but found his children unworthy of them. 

Back with Tony and Pepper, the statue goes in for the attack as Tony activates his armor. He then destroys the statue with ease. Unfortunately, there are more statues.

Gene and Rhody are attacked and Gene knocks Rhody out with a rock and puts on the rings. 

Pepper nearly dies many times in a fight scene where many statues are destroyed. Tony fires off his suit draining ARC beam and breaks the rest of the statues, saving Pepper in the nick of time. More statues enter. 

Gene continues to fight the statues.

Tony goes to investigate the book to try to stop the test. He then realizes that the sword is the real answer. Tony says the word right before he would have died. The statues fall and shatter. 

Gene now has the powers of the green ring, which blasts orange energy out of it. 

Everyone leaves alive and meets up to discuss what happened. Tony says he solved the test, Pepper tries to give Gene the sword she took with her, and the rings split the sword in half, revealing a map to another ring. Everyone trusts Gene now, for some reason, and with one last menacing shot of Gene the episode ends.

This was a fun, yet very story heavy episode. I liked the idea of the test and how Tony figured it out. Up next is the final episode for my project and the tenth episode of the series, Ready, A.I.M., Fire. Until then, have a nice day.
